About us

A practice built around being heard

Breakthrough Psychology exists to promote mental health and well-being in individuals, families, and communities — using evidence-based therapeutic methods delivered in a space where people feel safe enough to be honest.

Why we do this work

Most people arrive at therapy after trying to manage on their own for a long time. By the time they reach out, they are tired — and often quietly worried that what they are carrying is either too much or not enough to justify being here. It is neither. It is simply yours, and it deserves attention.

Our practice was founded on a simple belief: that change becomes possible when someone feels genuinely heard. Not managed, not diagnosed at from across a desk — heard. Everything else we do, every technique and framework, is built on top of that.

What we believe

We aim to create a safe, supportive environment where you feel heard, valued, and empowered to make positive changes. In practice that means a few concrete things: you set the pace, we decide together what we are working on and why, and you are always free to say that something is not working.

We work with youth, adults, couples, and families, drawing on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused practice, and Accelerated Resolution Therapy. Which of these we use depends on a combination of your individual needs and best practices.

Therapy and coaching, under one roof

Not everyone who wants to grow needs treatment. Alongside our psychological services we offer certified life and leadership coaching — forward-focused work on goals, performance, and follow-through. Having both available means we can point you towards what will actually help, rather than towards what we happen to offer.

How we work

Four commitments we hold to

01

You are heard first

Before anything else, we listen. Our work begins with understanding your story on your terms, without assumptions about what you need or how quickly you should need it.

02

Evidence-based methods

We draw on CBT, DBT, ACT, Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused practice, and ART — approaches with evidence-based practices behind them — and adapt them to you rather than fitting you to a protocol.

03

Practical, not abstract

You should leave sessions with something usable: a skill, a reframe, a next step. Over time these build into a therapeutic toolbox you can draw on in your day-to-day life.

04

A collaborative plan

Goals are set together and revisited together. You always know what we are working on and why, and you are free to change direction as your needs change.
